Nuts and other allergies

If you or any other member of your family suffers from a reaction to nuts, then you are not alone, and will no doubt know just how serious this condition can be.

Most allergic reactions are not life threatening, but some can lead to more severe reactions, where blood pressure drops and there is a pronounced swelling of the airways and throat. If the allergy is not controlled quickly, unconsciousness and even death can occur, so it is important to manage severe allergies. If you suffer from a nut allergy it's important to have your medication readily to hand: it's equally important this medication information is made known to others, under circumstances in which you may not be able to do so yourself.

Science is not exactly sure what causes an allergy to peanuts. A combination of genetic and environmental factors seems the most likely. Factors such as family history, eczema-type skin diseases, and even exposure to soy protein are often associated with the development of peanut allergy.

Current information and collected data does not fully support the long held theory that when peanuts are eaten during pregnancy or infancy there is an increased risk the child will develop a nut allergy.

For those with milder forms of the nut allergy, the raw nut protein usually causes a more severe reaction than the oil. Those diagnosed with anaphylaxis will have a more immediate reaction and must avoid all exposure to any allergen-containing products or by products. It is for these reasons those with an allergy to nuts have to take some basic precautions.

Silicone allergy bracelets are a cheap and simple idea which will clearly alert others to your allergy type and medication information. They are extremely robust being made from top quality pure silicone and provide a cost effective solution and a great alternative to traditional medical bracelet. But beware; don't settle for one of the cheaper, inferior brands on the market, you want something that will last, something that won't snap and fall to bits after a few weeks. Silicone wristbands are great for young and old alike.

Our quality, pre-printed silicone wristbands are easily sterilised and are 100% hypo-allergenic (non-toxic). They have soft, rounded and pliable edges and are designed to safely break and snap if enough force is applied, or the wearer becomes snagged. The severity of the allergy varies from person to person, and exposure can increase sensitization.

If you have some other type of allergy or medical condition, such as an allergy to dairy products, penicillin, or suffer from high blood pressure, or an abnormal heart condition - or if you are treated with medications such as warfarin, then a specialist medical silicone bracelet could be the solution you're looking for.

In the case of children with allergies, it's very difficult to keep an eye on them at all times, but by them wearing an allergy bracelet, or some other from of medical ID jewellery, you can at least have some peace of mind knowing their medical history can be known and accessed in times of need.
