Remembering birthdays has never been one of my strong suits so I eventually sat down and very quickly made a note of these important events. I never forget birthdays
usually, but, buying presents - I still haven't mastered!
However, I take comfort from knowing that I am not alone in this failing. I can't be, judging by the fact that I seem get the same presents each year; from the same people.
Socks and a big chocolate orange ball from my beloved in-laws, six golf balls from my son (I gave up years ago) and underpants and handkerchiefs from my mother.
Get the idea
you know whats inside before you open it. But its the thought that counts, isn't it.
This year, in my mother's case, it will be different. At last Ive discovered something useful that she hasn't got, something that is not only functional and attractive, but could also turn out to be a life saver! And it will provide me with a degree of assurance as to her well being, too.
I noticed that on a couple of occasions recently, whilst she was absorbed in a television programme or film, she suddenly realized that she had forgotten to take her tablets. As a lady of advancing years, with various medical conditions, missing medication - for only a relatively short time- can have consequences.
Family days out and other routine activities can sometimes be a distraction too.
A
medical alert watch is probably one of the most useful and thoughtful gifts you could give to a loved one. Whatever the condition or ailment, where medication is required, it's usually imperative that frequency intervals are strictly followed.
Medical alert watches take away this worry as you can program them to give up to 12 medication reminders a day. Each reminder takes the form of a clear, audible alarm with an optional text message alarm. The text alarm can be programmed to show a scrolling message on the watch display. This shows the medication and dosage due. You can also use the alarms for other important reminders. In addition to the alarm functions, the watch also stores your personal and medical details in the event of an emergency.
Now, I realise of course that my dear old mother will not be able to set the timer functions herself but these watches are so advanced that once set they can be forgotten. If for some reason they need to be changed
well, I'll just add that to the list of little jobs I still do for her
like the lawn, and the hedges, and taking the newspapers on Sunday morning. But they're not just for mums and dads, there are alert watches to suit all age groups, have a look, and see if you agree they would make a great gift.
